WIR 9/30-10/6

Wednesday 9/30: Started for Fresh Pond. Took almost 40 minutes to fight through traffic at which point I discovered it was street sweeping day on Huron, so I gave up and went to Mt. Auburn. Nice mixed flock almost straight out of the car included a Bay-breasted and a bunch of the common stuff. Eventually walked away and went up Harvard Hill, which had a toad and a Swainson’s Thrush. Went back and worked the flock some more and added a redstart before running out of time. Did hear I probably should have been looking up more.

Thursday 10/1: Couple Blackpolls in the yard when leaving. Cloudier than expected at Rock Meadow along with mowers in the garden. Walked around the back for a while without much beyond a flyover loon. Eventually got back to the gardens and dug up the Clay-colored. Lot of common stuff around though.

Friday 10/2: Prospect Hill was on the quiet side, redstart, pile of Pines, couple BH Vireos, Ovenbird, bit more.

Saturday 10/3: Started at Waltham St. Tennessee was nice, Blue Grosbeak was better even if it didn’t really cooperate. Waterthrush replaced that, then a bunch of Lincoln’s too. Eventually made my way over to Dunback where I heard that grosbeak hadn’t been seen. Fairly quiet in the fields but a Blackburnian and YB Cuckoo in the woods were quite nice. And on the way out, the grosbeak popped up, so probably a second bird?

Sunday 10/4: Started at Passanageset, which had 7 pintail, a White-crown, a Prairie Warbler, and a few other things. Nut Island after was pretty quiet, couple oystercatchers, both loons, and a WW Scoter. Skipped the beach and pulled in at the Squantum pannes mostly to check and make sure nothing was being reported nearby. Up to Earhart, which wasn’t terribly exciting (first junco of the fall about it). Lily’s text about a grebe at BBN came through, so made a quick stop for that (#196 for the patch).

Monday 10/5: Usual shorebirds and ducks at Arlington Res.

Tuesday 10/6: Cookson, Square, and Braille Trail were all very quiet.
