Wednesday 11/19: Forest Grove for the first time in forever. Nothing exciting though. PB Grebe at Norumbega and an eagle flushing everything at the res on the way home.
Thursday 11/20: Barrett’s Mill had one busy spot but nothing of note. No shoveler at Warner’s but a few pintail and wigeon plus an Evening Grosbeak.
Friday 11/21: Roughly 400 Ring-necks, a few scaup, 3 Killdeer, a siskin, etc at Weston Station Pond. About 225 Hoodies at the res with a small assortment of other ducks.
Saturday 11/22: Rainier than forecasted, sat around for a bit then eventually did a pond loop. Nothing different at the res. Didn’t get over fast enough for Rt. 9, so stopped at Kendrick and saw zero birds. Ring-necks at Hammond Pond. Chestnut Hill Res had an egret (apparently the first for there?), a Greater Scaup, and a few Ruddy and a few coot. Went back to Hammond to see if I had overlooked the hybrid and didn’t find it with a scope scan. Got a message about a scaup at BBN, so headed that way. Of course it was immediately corrected to Ring-neck, but a Peregrine was sitting by the pond so worth the trip anyway.
Sunday 11/23: Got to yesterday’s plans. Started at Forest Hills Cemetery. Drove a couple laps and finally found a flock of birds. Walked a short loop and then promptly found the Dickcissel 20 feet the other way. Walked a bit closer and a Clay-colored dropped in (which I later discovered was seen yesterday). Poked around a bit and mostly had juncos from there. Arnold Arboretum next, too many people and wasn’t terribly exciting. D. Blakely Hoar was pretty dead other than goldfinches but nothing with them. Millennium had the Lesser Scaup at Cow Island Pond but nothing of note at the park itself.
Monday 11/24: Evening Grosbeaks and Horned Larks over Ricci. A hundred mergansers on Flint’s, lot of ducks that I didn’t have time to sort on the res.
Tuesday 11/25: Sharpie and 30ish waxwings at the West Meadow, nothing exciting at the main part of BBN.
